BT Offers Ringing Endorsement

17 December 2008

Up and coming entrepreneurs can take their ideas to the next level by winning a new £10,000 business development competition.

To mark the recent Small Business Week 2008 (13-20 October), BT Business - a branch of British Telecom – has launched a UK-wide search for the most inspiring start-up venture or innovative idea for a new product.

The BT Business Grant contest offers a £10,000 first prize to the contestant who is judged to be either:

  • An entrepreneur with the best idea for a new start-up business.

Or

  • An established business with an innovative idea for launching a new product or expanding into a new market.

Urging firms to enter the competition, BT Business managing director Bill Murphy said:

“The entrepreneurial spirit is so important for the UK economy and we at BT Business feel it’s vital to support the next generation of entrepreneurs by providing opportunities like this.”

Entries must be made online at the BT Business website by 31 December. Five finalists will be invited to attend an interview in London during January to discuss their ideas in greater detail, with the one lucky winner set to be announced on 28 February.

Make a Wave Awards

12 December 2008

The Oguntê - UnLtd - Make A Wave Award is a "kickstart and thinking" scheme (worth up to £1000 in a combination of grant and training) made to women in the UK who can show that a very small amount of money, paired up with a resourceful brain, can be used to make a difference.

So, if you are an aspiring female social leader, if you haven't had the opportunity to shine yet and would like to pilot your project or your campaign, please apply!

We are looking for ideas that fit with the values of UnLtd's mission to reach out and unleash the energies of people who can transform the world in which they live. UnLtd call these people social entrepreneurs.

Your ideas need to be aligned with Ogunte's Women in Social Leadership vision: inspiration, entrepreneurship, networking, confidence, and sustainability.

Think about ways to generate income after your pilot to avoid reliance on grants.

RTS Entrepreneur Awards

16 July 2009

We are delighted to launch our own RTS Entrepreneur Awards to mark the end of the Ready to Start project!

The Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of the disabled entrepreneurs that have participated in this project, overcoming barriers and improving their lives to set up their own businesses. The focus of the Awards is the journey to becoming self-employed, rather than the immediate success of the business, and winners will be those people whose story most inspires the judges.

If you are a participant in Ready to Start, and have launched your own business, we want to hear your story.

With a regional prize of £500 for each of the eight regions we work in, plus an additional £1,000 for an overall national winner, this is also an opportunity for you to give your business a boost as well as gain some valuable publicity.

Additionally, one ‘Highly Commended’ winner in each region will also receive a certificate and be supported to achieve local publicity. All finalists will be invited to attend the end of project event at the House of Lords in October.

You can download a copy of the application form from the link on the front page of this website, at the Online Network http://readytostart.rowan.tincan.co.uk/?p=568, or alternatively email or phone 0845 6 717173 for large print or hard copy version.
